Today I had a 6 hour busride to the border town of Tacna Peru. It was a pleasant enough ride.

Typical landscape on today's ride
Once in Tacna, we had to go to the international bus station to get to Arica in Chile. This is one of the ugliest places ever.

My friend and I teamed with 2 European women travelling like us and tried to get a collectivo ride through the border. That fell through after an hour of negotiations as they kept telling us we needed to pay more. So, we took a bus which ended up being easy but long.
It was getting dark as we were driving into Chile but it appears much more modern than Peru. Parts of Arica look like a North American city. The drivers seem to be more chilled and like home as well. Our cab driver stopped to let an old woman cross the street where in Peru the driver would've honked his horn!
Once in Arica, the logistics did not end. The first hostel that we arrived at was full so we needed to find another one. Finally, we got to eat at 9 PM at a very greasy and good rotisserie chicken place.

Now, if I could only get my atm card to work I'll feel more settled in this country.

Bravo Miguel!
You have a long way to Patagonia, one of the most beautiful places in the world, but you are getting there!
hasta luego
